School Overview

The current Lawson Elementary school opened in the fall of 1999 to combine the former North Broadway and Lincoln schools. It was named to honor Earl M. Lawson, dedicated educator and principal at the historically black Lincoln school for 34 years.
There are many exciting things happening at Earl M. Lawson Elementary School. Each staff member is committed to the development of a challenging and supportive school environment where our emphasis is on developing the total child. Our aim is to provide an environment where each child loves and looks forward to each morning!

This year Lawson Elementary will continue with the school wide behavior management program, CHAMPS, which is a part of the Safe and Civil Schools Program.

The Safe and Civil School Series is a collection of strategies designed to create productive, safe and respectful learning environments. The goal of the program is to empower school personnel with techniques to help all students behave responsibly and respectfully. The approach is designed around these basic beliefs:

  • All students must be treated with dignity and respect
  • Students can and should be taught skills and behaviors needed for success.
  • Motivation and responsibility should be encouraged through positive interactions and through building relationships with students.
  • Student misbehavior provides a teaching opportunity.
