As you know, the safety and security of your child is our highest priority. We have created a streamlined dismissal process to ensure secure and quick release of our students at the end of each day. Below are the dismissal guidelines:

We strongly suggest that you use the car loop as it will be the most efficient mode of student pickup.

• Students from Ms. Coyle, Ms. Walker, Ms. Tharp, & Ms. Gwartney’s classrooms will be dismissed directly to parents or the school bus at the front of the building.

• Students who are picked up by a daycare vehicle will meet a staff member in the gymnasium. Staff members will escort the students upstairs to the library to wait for the daycare professionals to arrive at the front of the school.

• Students who are walkers will meet a staff member in the gymnasium. Once all students have reported and the car loop has been cleared, staff members will safely escort those students across 4th and 5th Streets.

Important Note: Walkers will be held until the car loop has cleared in an effort to increase the safety of those crossing the street. As a result, if your child is walking, they may not be dismissed until 3:30 pm. If you normally wait for your child to cross the street, you will either need to wait until 3:30 pm or come to the front door to pick them up.

• Students who are picked up in cars will report to the gymnasium with their classroom teacher. Parents picking up their students need to wait in our “drive up” line on Johnson Street. As you approach the staff member with the “Car Riders” sign, please place your name card in the driver’s side windshield. Stay in the line until you drive up to the gymnasium and a staff member safely escorts your child to your car. Then, remain in that moving line until you cross 4th Street.

• Students who are picked up by a walking parent will also report to the gymnasium with their classroom teacher. Staff members will escort the students to the main hallway to meet their parents. Parents picking up these students need to wait in front of the school by the main door, a staff member will let you in the building for a staff member to call your children to meet you in front of the office.

For the safety and accountability of our students, we do not pull students from class once we begin to transition for dismissal. If you need to pick your child up a few minutes early from the front office or a change needs to occur in how your child gets home for the day, please notify the office prior to 2:30 pm. Once all students have reported to the gym, we will begin dismissing students immediately. To ensure a safe and efficient dismissal for the students of Lawson, we require the participation of all staff members, including our office staff. We appreciate your patience and help by not ringing the office bell or knocking on the doors during that time.
